Lecturer: Dr Glenn Godenho – Senior lecturer in Egyptology at Liverpool University
Date & Time: Saturday April 12th starting at 4:15pm
Location: Cooper Art Gallery
The First Intermediate Period in Egypt, which came after the collapse of the Old Kingdom, has long been seen as a lawless time with widespread starvation. Dr Glenn Godenho has been working with colleagues on the tomb of Ankhtifi, a notable warlord and provincial governor of the time. Discovered in 1928, it has helped to shine more light on this dark period.

Ankhtifi (c 2100 BC) was a highly effective leader and his life is told in his detailed and colourful tomb. Among the hieroglyphs we can read: “I am at the head of men and at the rear of men. I am one who solves a problem when there is no solution. I gave bread to the hungry and I did not allow anyone to die.” Clearly not a modest man!
