Hatiay was the overseer of works to Akhenaten. He helped the pharaoh to realize his dream of building a new capital city in Amarna in order to worship the sun god Aten. As such he was a highly valued servant and he was rewarded accordingly with a magnificent house.

Ian Trumble is the curator of archaeology, Egyptology and world cultures at Bolton Library and Museum and curator of Bolton’s Egypt galleries.
