The remarkable remains of the tomb builders’ dwellings from over 3,000 years ago give us a unique glimpse into their lives, just as the tombs they built in secrecy bear testimony to their skills. Here, masons, craftsmen, artists and scribes lived side by side near the Valley of the Kings.

Hazel McGuinness is the secretary of the Horus Egyptology Society in Wigan.
The large number of papyri and ostraca (potsherds with writing on them) found there give us some of the best accounts of everyday life in ancient Egypt, and Hazel McGuinness will tell us about them this Saturday, as in the poster below. These workers were highly skilled in various disciplines and many could read and write. Thus they left records of their concerns and day-to-day affairs.
Do join us! Remember it’s at St Thomas’s church and not the Cooper Gallery. Ticket prices have not risen since last year!
