  1. The vertical niches were for flagpoles (very long ones!) and the little windows allowed for the flagpoles to be secured.
    Note the three different poses of the statues of Ramesses II.
    The baboons at the base of the statue were used as a motif because baboons will often beat their chest as the sun rises.
